After Your Vision Screening

Vision screening is non-invasive with no recovery needed. If you pass, you'll receive immediate certification documentation. If corrective lenses are required, we'll note this on your forms - you may need to obtain proper eyewear and return for re-testing. For DOT drivers, vision standards require at least 20/40 acuity in each eye and 70° peripheral vision. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment for vision screening?

No appointment is necessary. Walk-ins are welcome daily from 8am to 8pm at both locations. However, if you're combining vision screening with a full DOT physical, calling ahead can help us prepare your paperwork.

What are the DOT vision requirements for commercial drivers?

According to FMCSA regulations, commercial drivers must have at least 20/40 acuity in each eye (with or without correction), at least 70 degrees peripheral vision in horizontal meridian in each eye, and ability to recognize traffic signal colors. Our certified examiners will assess all these requirements during your screening.

Can I wear glasses or contacts during the vision test?

Yes, you should wear your corrective lenses if you use them for driving or work. We'll test your vision with your normal correction and note on your certification that corrective lenses are required. Bring your glasses or contacts to the appointment.

What if I don't pass the vision screening?

If you don't meet the required standards, we'll provide documentation of your results and guidance on next steps. This typically involves seeing an eye care specialist for updated prescription lenses, then returning for re-testing. We'll clearly explain what's needed for certification.

How long does a vision screening take?

A standalone vision screening typically takes 10-15 minutes. If combined with a full DOT physical examination, allow 30-45 minutes for the complete evaluation. We work efficiently to minimize your time away from work.

What should I bring to my vision screening?

Bring your photo ID, any vision screening forms from your employer, your current glasses or contact lenses (if you wear them), and a list of any eye medications or conditions. If this is for DOT certification, bring your current medical examiner's certificate if you have one.

Do you provide vision screening for all types of commercial licenses?

Yes, we provide DOT vision screening for all classes of commercial driver's licenses (CDL Class A, B, and C), as well as vision testing for various occupational health requirements including forklift operators, heavy equipment operators, and other safety-sensitive positions. Our examiners are familiar with different industry standards.

Is the vision screening valid in other states?

Yes, DOT medical examinations and vision screenings conducted by FMCSA-certified examiners are valid nationwide. Your medical examiner's certificate is recognized across all states for interstate commercial driving. For occupational health screenings, validity depends on your employer's requirements.
