OSHA-Compliant Respirator Fit Testing

Respirator fit testing ensures your protective equipment creates a proper seal, protecting you from airborne hazards in your workplace. We provide OSHA-compliant quantitative and qualitative fit testing for N95 respirators, half-face, and full-face respirators. Walk-ins welcome at both Palm Beach Gardens and Stuart locations, open daily 8am-8pm.

After Your Fit Test

Upon successful completion, you'll receive certification documentation valid for one year per OSHA requirements. Keep your certification with your work records and bring the same respirator model to work. Annual retesting is required, or sooner if you experience significant weight change, dental work, facial surgery, or changes in facial hair. If you failed the fit test, we'll provide recommendations for alternative respirator models or sizes. Some individuals may require custom-fitted respirators if standard models don't provide adequate seal. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment for respirator fit testing?

No appointment is necessary. We welcome walk-ins daily from 8am to 8pm at both our Palm Beach Gardens and Stuart locations. However, if you're bringing a group of employees for testing, calling ahead helps us prepare and minimize wait times.

How long does a fit test take?

Most fit tests take 15-30 minutes, depending on whether qualitative or quantitative testing is performed and whether multiple respirator models need to be tested. We strive to complete your testing efficiently while ensuring OSHA compliance.

What's the difference between qualitative and quantitative fit testing?

Qualitative fit testing uses a taste or smell test (saccharin or Bitrex) to detect leakage around the respirator seal. Quantitative testing uses specialized equipment to measure the actual fit factor with numerical precision. Both methods are OSHA-approved, and we can perform either based on your employer's requirements.

Can I be fit tested if I have a beard?

OSHA regulations require that nothing come between the sealing surface of the respirator and your face, including facial hair. Beards, stubble, or even a few days' growth can prevent proper seal and will result in fit test failure. You must be clean-shaven in the seal area for testing and whenever wearing the respirator at work.

What should I bring to my fit test?

Bring your photo ID, insurance card if applicable, and your respirator if you already have one. If you don't have a respirator yet, we have multiple models and sizes available for testing. Also bring any paperwork from your employer specifying testing requirements or preferred respirator models.

How long is my fit test certification valid?

OSHA requires annual fit testing, so your certification is valid for one year from the test date. You'll need retesting sooner if you experience significant weight change (10+ pounds), dental work, facial surgery, or develop facial hair. Always use the same respirator model that you were fit tested with.

What happens if I fail the fit test?

If you fail the initial fit test, we'll try different respirator models, sizes, or styles to find one that provides an adequate seal. Most people can be successfully fit tested with the right respirator. If you cannot achieve proper fit with any available model, we'll provide documentation and recommendations for your employer, which may include custom-fitted respirators or alternative protective measures.

Do you provide documentation for my employer?

Yes, we provide complete OSHA-compliant documentation including the fit test results, respirator model and size tested, fit factor (for quantitative tests), and certification date. We can send documentation directly to your employer if requested, and you'll receive a copy for your personal records.
