Recovery Timeline & Self-Care

Recovery varies by injury type. Minor sprains improve in 1-2 weeks, while fractures require 4-6 weeks. Keep the hand elevated above heart level to reduce swelling. Apply ice for 15-20 minutes every 2-3 hours during the first 48 hours. Follow splinting instructions carefully and avoid using the injured hand for heavy activities. Watch for increased pain, numbness, or color changes indicating circulation problems. Return for worsening symptoms or signs of infection. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment for hand injury care?

No appointment is necessary. We welcome walk-ins daily from 8am to 8pm at both our Palm Beach Gardens and Stuart locations. For severe injuries with uncontrolled bleeding or complete loss of function, call 911 or go to the emergency room.

Can you take X-rays of my hand?

Yes, we have digital X-ray equipment on-site at both locations. Our medical providers can order and interpret hand X-rays during your visit, providing rapid diagnosis of fractures or dislocations. Results are typically available within minutes.

Do you provide stitches for hand cuts?

Yes, we provide wound care including suturing for lacerations. Our medical providers are experienced in hand wound repair and can handle most cuts requiring stitches. Deep cuts involving tendons or nerves may require referral to a hand specialist.

Can you treat broken fingers?

Yes, we diagnose and treat most finger fractures with splinting and immobilization. Complex fractures requiring surgical intervention will be referred to an orthopedic specialist, but we provide initial stabilization and pain management.

What should I bring to my visit?

Bring your photo ID, insurance card if applicable, and a list of current medications. If your injury occurred at work, bring workers' compensation information. Remove jewelry from the injured hand before arrival if possible.

When should I go to the emergency room instead?

Go to the emergency room for: complete amputation of finger or hand, uncontrolled bleeding despite direct pressure, hand completely crushed or mangled, loss of blood flow (pale, cold, no pulse), or injury with severe contamination. We can handle most other hand injuries.

Will I need follow-up care?

Most hand injuries require follow-up to monitor healing. We provide detailed instructions and can arrange follow-up visits at our clinic. Complex fractures or injuries requiring specialist care will receive appropriate referrals with coordination of your treatment plan.

Do you treat work-related hand injuries?

Yes, we accept workers' compensation cases and provide the documentation needed for workplace injuries. We understand the importance of prompt treatment and proper documentation for occupational injuries.
