After Your Blood Draw

Most patients experience no complications from blood draws. Apply gentle pressure to the puncture site for 2-3 minutes and keep the bandage on for several hours. Minor bruising is normal and typically resolves within a few days. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid heavy lifting with the affected arm for the rest of the day. If you experience excessive bleeding, severe pain, or signs of infection at the puncture site, contact us immediately. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fast before blood work?

Fasting requirements depend on the specific tests ordered. For lipid panels and glucose testing, an 8-12 hour fast is typically recommended for accurate results. However, many blood tests do not require fasting. When you arrive, our medical providers will discuss your testing needs and determine if fasting is necessary. If fasting is required and you've recently eaten, we can often schedule your blood draw for the following morning.

How long does it take to get blood work results?

Most common blood tests are processed in our on-site laboratory with results available during your visit or within a few hours. Complete Blood Counts (CBC), Basic Metabolic Panels (BMP), and glucose tests typically provide rapid results. More specialized tests may require sending samples to reference laboratories, with results available within 24-72 hours. We'll inform you of expected turnaround times for your specific tests.

Can you perform blood work ordered by my primary care doctor?

Yes, we can perform blood work ordered by your primary care physician or specialist. Please bring the lab order form with you. We'll complete the testing and send results directly to your ordering provider. This service is convenient when your doctor's office has limited lab hours or you need testing completed quickly.

Do you accept insurance for blood work?

Yes, we accept most major insurance plans for laboratory services. Coverage varies by plan and specific tests ordered. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify coverage for laboratory services at urgent care facilities. Our staff can provide you with billing codes to help you check coverage before testing if desired.

What should I bring to my blood work appointment?

Please bring your photo ID, insurance card, and any lab orders from your healthcare provider if applicable. If you're monitoring a chronic condition, bring a list of current medications and any previous lab results for comparison. This information helps our medical providers interpret your results accurately and provide comprehensive care.

Is blood work painful?

Most patients experience only brief discomfort during blood draws. Our experienced phlebotomy team uses techniques to minimize pain, including selecting appropriate veins and using proper needle insertion methods. If you're anxious about needles, let our staff know - we can provide strategies to help you feel more comfortable during the procedure.

Can I get blood work done without seeing a provider?

For safety and accuracy, our medical providers evaluate each patient to determine appropriate testing based on symptoms, medical history, and clinical presentation. This ensures you receive the right tests and that results are properly interpreted in the context of your overall health. However, if you have a specific lab order from another healthcare provider, we can complete that testing efficiently.

What if my blood work results are abnormal?

If your results show abnormalities, our medical providers will explain the findings and their clinical significance. Depending on the results, we may initiate treatment, prescribe medications, recommend lifestyle modifications, or refer you to a specialist for further evaluation. We ensure you understand your results and have a clear plan for next steps before you leave our clinic.
