Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fast before blood glucose testing?

It depends on the type of test. Fasting glucose tests require 8-12 hours without food or drink (except water). A1C testing and random glucose tests do not require fasting. We'll advise you on preparation when you call or arrive.

How long does it take to get A1C results?

Our rapid A1C testing provides results during your visit, typically within 15-20 minutes. This allows our medical providers to discuss your results and create a treatment plan before you leave.

What is the difference between A1C and regular glucose testing?

A regular glucose test measures your blood sugar at that moment, while A1C reflects your average blood glucose over the past 2-3 months. A1C is the gold standard for diagnosing diabetes and monitoring long-term glucose control.

Can you diagnose diabetes at urgent care?

Yes, we can diagnose diabetes or prediabetes based on blood glucose and A1C results according to American Diabetes Association criteria. We provide initial treatment recommendations and can coordinate ongoing care with your primary care provider.

Do I need an appointment for blood glucose testing?

No appointment is necessary. We welcome walk-ins daily from 8am to 8pm at both our Palm Beach Gardens and Stuart locations. You can also call ahead if you have questions about test preparation.

What should I bring to my visit?

Please bring your photo ID, insurance card (if applicable), and a list of current medications. If you're monitoring diabetes, bring your glucose log or meter if you have one. This helps us provide comprehensive care.

Will you share my results with my primary care doctor?

Yes, with your permission, we can send your test results and visit summary to your primary care provider. This ensures continuity of care and helps coordinate your ongoing diabetes management.

What if my blood sugar is dangerously high or low?

If your blood glucose is at a dangerous level, we'll provide immediate stabilization and determine whether you need emergency care. For critically high or low levels with severe symptoms, we may recommend emergency room evaluation.
